New Beginnings - Maisha Ika Sawa is a facility that supports people with developmental disabilities in one of the largest slums in the world in Kibera, Kenya.
This school was born out of a desire to provide opportunities in ways that wouldn't be possible due to extreme poverty and a lack of everyday resources. This school has given hope and inspiration to deserving Kenyan people with disabilities.
All of this wouldn't be possible if it weren't for a dedicated team of international and local staff who've been with the program from the very beginning, teachers helping to provide education and stimulation for students, and volunteers who have put there energy and heart into making this dream a reality over the past 5 years.
However, in order to keep the dream alive we rely HEAVILY on the donations of others.
Which is where YOU come in!
Currently our school can only fit 7 students, all of whom you can learn about HERE . Not only do we need YOUR HELP to keep the school up and running, we want to dream bigger and provide MORE access to MORE students by early 2018. Which means we'll need a bigger school and more local staff to help.
We intend to buy and renovate a whole new facility that will enable the current and new students the ability to collaborate and interact with other local community groups. One of the most important things is making this new facility an inclusive space for the students to learn and interact with children from a wide variety of other schools including art, dance, and music schools to name a few.
Every. Single. Dollar we raise goes directly to funding the school and helping these beautiful students continue to grow and flourish in their community.
