New Terrace Search & Rescue Hall

Terrace Search and Rescue (TSAR) has been serving Northwest British Columbia for over 30 years. Today, Terrace SAR is comprised of 70 team members, all dedicated volunteers, trained in a multiple of SAR disciplines. Services are provided, as needed, 24 hours-a-day, 365 days a year.
In 2018, TSAR committed 5,970 hours for training, operational task and community events. Two of our operational tasks involved traveling 2320 km outside our normal operating area. Our region is challenging, it is a vast area comprised of mountains and plateaus, treed with heavy underbrush, swamps and waterways, including complex fast-moving river systems.
Because of the increasing demand for search and rescue services in BC and the North, we have grown to meet the need, but outgrown not only our current rented location but borrowed training space as well. There is no place available to us to have the entire team train at the same time.
As such, we have purchased property, and this year we will be moving forward with plans to construct a new building to serve the needs of our team, our community, and the region. We are confident, with the help of the community and local and regional sponsors, we can achieve our goal.
The new facility will be able to house all our current equipment and future training needs. As well, Terrace Search and Rescue recognizes public meeting space as an important community asset. Our new central SAR base will be a public location where members of our community can utilize the facility for group activities, social support, public information and many other purposes that will enhance the community. The building will also incorporate an Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The EOC is our coordination center during a major response where key municipal personnel and other agencies involved gather to support activities taking place at the site(s) of the emergency. The EOC, once established, will be shared with other community emergency groups in the area.
