New Technology for Ms. G

Donation protected
A few weeks ago, one of my good friend's Grace sent me a clip of her student listening to a recording of a book via a record player type of machine. Grace, known affectionately by her students as Ms. G, is a Special Education teacher in Richmond City Public Schools. She explained to me that this what her students use because they don't have laptops or iPads for individual activities like reading.

The facts, directly from Grace:

-My classroom is a Low-Incidence, Special Education classroom that serves students in grades Kindergarten-4th grade.

-Because of the school’s Title 1 status, all students receive a free breakfast, free lunch, and free snack each day at school.

-Some of the disability categories represented in my classroom are Intellectual Disability, Down’s Syndrome, Autism, and Cerebral Palsy, along with others.

-The physical abilities in my classroom range between students who are mobile and students who use a wheelchair for movement.

-Some of my students are verbal and some of my students are nonverbal, which requires extremely differentiated instruction.

-Despite all of our differences, my class shares the commonality of a LOVE and PASSION for learning. All of my students take great pride in their successes inside the classroom and are eager to learn new skills. My students are persistent and resilient.

Here's where we come in to help:

-Unfortunately, my classroom is not supplied with the technology it needs to serve my students. Students who learn through visual aids, repetition, and interactive activities need to engage with updated technology on a daily basis. My classroom currently has a Smartboard, but no iPads or laptops. I am in need of three iPads and three laptops to better serve the needs of my students. My students are deserving, capable, and ready to learn. I am excited to watch their growth this year and in years to come!

In short: Let's get Grace some new technology for her classroom. In addition to monetary contributions, if anyone would like to donate an iPad or laptop that is still in great condition, please contact me (Erinn) directly.

THANK YOU! Everyone that knows Grace knows that she and her students are the perfect group to receive such an amazing gift.
