New Seoul Plaza Staff Relief Fund

New Seoul Plaza is looking to raise funds for their staff in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. We kindly ask the community to help our staff either by contributing and/or by sharing our story below with others.

 Who are we?

New Seoul Plaza (Daebak Korean BBQ, Jinji Korean Cuisine and Myomee Cafe) is a small family-run Korean restaurant business located in Southfield, Michigan. It was launched in August 2018 with the mission to enrich the community with diversity and culture. Not only does it pride itself on high quality and authentic Korean cuisine but also excellent service provided by its hardworking and enthusiastic staff.

 Why are we raising funds?

We are raising funds to help our staff who currently are unemployed due to the temporary closing of New Seoul Plaza. Most of our staff members have primarily relied on the wages earned at our restaurants to support themselves and their families. The unforeseeable future has had an immense financial impact on them and their families.

Why don’t we remain open for carryout?

Given the type of cuisine and the menu items that we offer, we would not able to sustain on a carry-out only business model. We are currently strategizing on providing a different type of menu if we do decide to open for carry-out. However, even if we open for carry-out, we will not be able to provide enough hours for our 45+ staff members.

What are we doing for our staff to help them?

1.    Distributing food items such as raw vegetables, eggs and kimchi to all our staff members
2.    Helping staff members file online for unemployment benefits, especially those who do not have access to computers or have difficulty with using computers
3.    Strategizing on other methods to help our staff members such as providing part-time janitorial jobs and referrals to other employment opportunities
4.    Meticulously managing our finances and inventory so that we can quickly open and re-hire 100% of our staff as soon as it becomes safe
5.    Actively researching for benefits provided by the government that will directly help our staff and sharing those benefits with them

How are the funds going to be distributed?

100% of the funds (besides the 2.9% transaction fee plus $0.30 per donation take by the GoFundMe platform) will be distributed to the staff evenly, regardless of hours or  pay as we believe all our staff (waiters, dishwashers, kitchen) are all an equal integral member of the New Seoul Plaza family.

We sincerely are grateful for all our patrons and community members for all their concerns and support during this time. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, please feel to email us at [email redacted]. #stayhealthy #staystrong #supportlocal #fighting
