SHBC Fundraiser Walk - 13 April 2025
Swale Hawks Basketball Club first started at New House Youth and Sports Centre back in 2006, founded by Andrew Martin. He started the club after helping grow Canterbury Jazz, now Kent Crusaders, in the early 2000s.
The not-for-profit club built a hub of players, parents and volunteers that had a positive impact on the community and provided access to sport for people of all backgrounds at an affordable cost.
Unfortunately, New House Sports and Youth Centre was closed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic which left the club without a permanent venue upon its return in the summer of 2020, hosting outdoor sessions at Fulston Manor School. Now residing at The Abbey Sports Centre in Faversham, the club has found its new home venue of the last 3 seasons.
In February 2025, the venue was sold by Kent County Council which has now left several sports teams and the local community without access to a quality sports facility and youth club.
In order to commemorate the closure of our first venue, the club’s volunteers are completing a sponsored fundraiser walk from Sittingbourne to Faversham, old venue to new, totalling a distance of 8 miles.
All sponsorships will be reinvested into the club to provide new equipment, quality training sessions and an infrastructure for the club to grow at our new venue.
The team taking on the challenge includes Andrew, Jack, Ethan and Chris, supported by a number of player/volunteers.
