New home for the RAF Sculthorpe Heritage Centre

The RAF Sculthorpe Heritage Centre was born in 2016 and opened to the public in August 2019.
Since then we have gone from strength to strength to the point were we now need a much larger building.
The Heritage Centre is a memorial to the thousands of people that have passed though its historic gates.

In February 2022, the most recognisable building, the VHB ATC Tower was demolished and the heart of the airfield was gone.

It's not going to be to long before nothing is left.

Also in February, we had the honour and privilege that Her Majesty, The Queen paid the RSHC a private visit.
We must be doing something right!

With this, it's very clear that the former airfield infrastructure will not be around forever and now is the time to save the former Chapel building for use as the new home of the RAF Sculthorpe Heritage Centre.

It was built as part of the VHB conversion in 1945 and originally was the Chapel.
Its also been the AYA, Bowling alley, Cinema and School.
The building is in need of work, but it's one of the few buildings that is worth saving and most importantly, water tight!

The building is owned by a private landlord and we would need capital to purchase and to carry out the renovation work.
This is our plan A, we have plan B which would involve building a new Nissan hut on land which we can rent.
It would cost £30,000 to purchase and build.
We also have a plan C which would be off site, but within earshot of the airfield and similar to plan B.

Our preference would of course be the former Chapel building.
But we need your support to make this happen.

Any support would be gratefully accepted.

We have done so much in a short space of time and with the HM visit, proves how important this Cold War airfield is to many and how we can keep the memory of the people who called Sculthorpe home.
