A new home for Against the Grain

For three months, Against the Grain Art & Music has served the music and arts community of Central Alabama. Against all odds, I was able to build my dream of supporting original music and art, in a community that was void of both. Sinking my family thousands of dollars in debt, I pushed on because I believed in our scene and our community. The support was unbelievable, and my dream was coming true. However, my dream was not equally celebrated by everyone. As of September 12, 2017, I have been evicted due to the nature of my business and my clientele, among other issues with the property owners. While I knew that Elmore county would not welcome us with open arms, I was confident that we could win them over, and change the negative perceptions associated with Punk Rock. Although I am deeply saddened by being uprooted after only three months, this is not the end. Not by a long shot. They took our building, but they will never take our vision, our voices, our presence. As brothers and sisters, I'm asking for your help. I spent every dime I could muster getting this business going, and it's going to take the whole village if I'm going to start over. Between the costs of moving out, securing a new location with a deposit and first month's rent, establishing utilities, licensing, renovations, etc. It will take at least $7,000 to get up and running in a new location. I know that's asking for alot, but we can do it. My promise to you is that Against the Grain will emerge from the rubble having truly earned it's name, and we'll be bigger, better and stronger. I believe in us, and I believe in rock n' roll, and together, we will NEVER go away.
