New furnace for Kathy and John

Donation protected
My dad, John, has been battling an extremely rare and aggressive form of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma for the last year and a half. He's been through 3 different treatments, two of which did nothing, and tried to start a fourth but wasn't given the time before other complications put him in the hospital for two weeks early this December. Coincidentally, that was also my mom's birthday.

On the day my mom, Kathy, was finally able to pick him up from Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital in NYC, their carbon monoxide detector went off. Despite her desire to start the 2 hour drive to pick up my dad, she called 911 and the firemen discovered a pipe had separated and exhaust was leaking back into the house.

I stayed to wait for the heating guy so my mom could go get my dad. When he was working on the furnace, he pointed out the rust on the bottom and the leaking humidifier that he turned off. He said they really need a new furnace as there's was likely at least 20 years old. My dad is usually able to do most of the work needed for home repairs, but unfortunately, in his current state, and given the fact that his job fired him after learning he'd be on long term disability, replacing a furnace is yet another expense and stress that I don't want my parents to have to carry. They have been trying so hard to prepare for retirement the last few years and it seems to me that there are always things slowing them down. It is my hope that we can raise enough money to at least provide them with a new furnace so that one thing can be lifted from their plate. And if not enough for the whole furnace, then maybe at least enough to use for trips to my dad's doctors in the city, car repair as needed, or anything else that would just help as one less thing to worry about. My parents have always tried to be there for others and they taught me what it means to give selflessly and to help whenever you can. So now I want to repay them by giving to them.

Please don't say anything to them about this. I haven't told them I'm setting this up for them because they never would agree to it. But I think my parents deserve a little break from what life has thrown at them lately. Thank you!!
