In Vicky Barnard's Honor, Mental Health Advocacy

Donation protected
Having started a non-profit before, it takes some time to get it all set up and structured. In the meantime, we will start our fundraising campaign here.

Vicky Lynn Barnard was tragically taken from us on the morning of January 29th, 2021. Her death is a result of several years of constant care of her half-brother who moved to Texas from Palm Springs after being depressed and feeling high anxiety. My mother had a heart of gold and asked him to move in with her, as they both believed that he being around family could help him.  He attempted suicide on three different occasions and she continued to care for him after multiple mental health facilities released him after observation. She fought long and hard to get him care and managed his doctor visits, appointments, and allowed him into their home. She and my father even had a judge involuntary commit him to a facility that released him after 14 days. During that November 2020 mental hospital stay, she communicated that he needed to live somewhere else and that she feared he might harm her or the family....again that was not enough.

We now sit in great grief as she is no longer with us. He took her from us. As part of her fight and legacy, we are starting a Christian-based advocacy and resources non-profit to support families, children, and adults seeking support and resources as the system continues to fail so many.  Depression, anxiety, and mental health is a very serious problem in our country and COVID is adding fuel to the fire. Our churches have AA and Addiction support, but many of these diseases are the start of something bigger including mental health. Our churches must give serious rise to the mental health of our communities and our people. We can do better, we must do better!

Vicky Barnard would want us to find ways to bring some good and help others as she always did.

We appreciate any donation (small and large), as this will go to help set up the vision and mission of VLB Foundation.  If you have ideas, Christian-based leaders and medical practitioners, resources, please contact us here or feel free to private message or text...we prefer to speak on the phone.
