New Addington Carnival, is a staple of life for New Addington Residents.
It has been held since the early 1950's and has always been well attended.
Many people will remember the Carnival how it used to be, with massive crowds, massive amounts of floats, a huge bootsale, as well as the fair.
Back then, a lot of local Council's were in a position to help fund these events, but not any more.
Therefore all the money needed to put on the Carnival has to be raised by us, we are merely a bunch of volunteers who take no money for doing this, and give up our time freely.
We actually enjoy doing this, but it is harder and harder each year.
The average price for a professional act, is upwards of £2000 (normally for 2 x 30 minute acts)
Then there is the hire of the field, insurances, security, and so much much more, the total cost each year to hold this event is up to £12000 and keep rising.
To just give you a very brief breakdown of costs for just a 2 day event
Insurance - £600-£800
Field Hire - £600+
Radio hire - £200
Professional acts - £2000 minimum (thats why there was only one this year)
Toilets - £750
Stage - £2500
First Aid (St John) - £750
Raffle tickets + licensing - £150
Banners/Advertising - £600
Licensing for alcohol outlet - £40
Security - £1700
Marching band - £200
Waste removal - £ 350
Road closure order - £300
Stock for our own stalls - £350
So as you can see, there is a lot of outlay for just a 2 day event, and the planning continues all year round.
**We are lucky that SOME of the companies we use, do offer us discounts on their charges, otherwise we would struggle even more.
This is why we need your help, without donations, we cannot keep going.
