Never Walk Away From Family

Have you ever been shocked? Not literally shocked, but the type of shock you feel when a horror movie takes a turn for the worse. This is the type of shock that went through the minds of my entire family when they found out my Cousin, Shane, was in a severe car accident and left paralyzed. Shane, who is only 26 years old, had made huge strides this past year including finding the love of his life,  starting a career he loved, and most importantly having his first child. Shane was on his way to work the overnight shift to provide for his 7 month old son, Mason, when he got in this horrific car crash. Although the last three months have been nothing short of Hell for Shane and his family, we were recently informed that there is a type of rehab that may be able to get Shane to walk again. If it works out, the fear of Shane not being able to teach Mason how to ride a bike, throw a baseball, or play hockey will not be his reality. Aside from these fundamental moments every Father should have with their son, Shane could go back to work and continue to provide for his family. The challenge with this level of rehab, despite being physically demanding, is that it could cost more than $500 a week.  A 12 month program could cost as much as $26,000. On top of that expense, he is still currently confined to a wheelchair, which means he will need a ramp installed in his apartment, and a handicap compatible vehicle so his fiancé Meghan, is able to drive him to and from rehab. You can imagine how much these necessities will cost. After hearing my Mother and Aunt (Shane’s Mother) worrying about this financial burden, I thought of the idea of raising the money through a Go Fund Me page.  For him to have the chance to walk again, and to be the best father to Mason. I'm asking everyone in my network of friends whether it be through hockey or otherwise, to please dig deep in their heart and not walk away from my family.
