Neurologic Mission to the Ecuadoran Amazon

Dear friends, 

Since 2009, in partnership with Hospital José María Velasco Ibarra (HJMVI), the International Neurology Foundation has created a free pediatric and adult neurology clinic in Tena — the only neurology clinic in Ecuador’s Amazon, a region with almost 1 million inhabitants. Over the past 11 years, we have completed 2,761 patient visits for epilepsy, neurodevelopmental disorders, cerebral palsy, congenital hydrocephalus, autism, and other neurologic conditions. Almost 75% of our patients are children, and over half claim indigenous identity or speak indigenous languages. 

Last year we were unable to travel to Tena due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which hit especially hard in medically underserved regions in Ecuador. This year we are returning to serve our patients, a large majority of whom have no other access to neurologic care. Your donation will help to support this vital mission by allowing us to bring medical volunteers, EEG technologists, and critical supplies to HJVMI and the people of the Ecuadoran Amazon. 

INF Mission Statement: We believe that all individuals deserve access to medical care and for those suffering from neurological diseases, access to care begins with us. For each region, we organize a one-week international neurological mission a year. Continuous consultation is provided via email, teleconferencing and videoconferencing.
