Funding Nessaja's Ballet Dream

We tell our children to dream big, to aim as high as they dare. We preach that they can do anything that they put their minds to. And sometimes, if we're lucky, they believe us and live by those words. Well, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones because my girl has given her dreams full permission to live and grow as big as her heart will allow.

I have watched Nessaja Camille transform from a bow-legged, pigeon-toed cherub of a baby, to a happy, but shy 7-year old who just wanted to dance. Now, through seven years of dedication and hard work, she has blossomed into a kind-hearted, beautiful dancer with serious aspirations of becoming a professional ballerina. On top of being a high school freshman who has maintained an A-B average throughout her entire educational career, she currently dances at least 8 hours per week. This work ethic has opened the door for many wonderful opportunities such as dancing in the Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker in 2015, being selected as a Brown Girls Do Ballet Ambassador and dancing in the Open World Dance Foundation's production of Cinderella, featuring American Ballet Theatre's Misty Copeland and Calvin Royal III in 2016. Earlier this year, Nessaja had the honor of performing a contemporary ballet solo and receiving a "Next Generation" medal at the Black Girl Excellence Awards in Houston, Texas. This summer will bring two more exciting opportunities, as she earned the lead role in her studio's production of Cinderella, as well as being accepted into American Ballet Theatre's 4-week Summer Intensive program in Austin, Texas!

I cannot fully express to you Nessaja's excitement when she learned she had been offered a place in the Summer Intensive program of the ballet company that Misty Copeland calls home. I'm extremely proud of my little butterfly and cannot wait to see the growth that this summer brings. I am also grateful for the "village" that has surrounded, encouraged and supported her through all of her training and every performance of her budding dance career. It is with you, her village, in mind that I present this request for any assistance you can muster. Whether that assistance comes by way of financial donation, by sharing this fundraising campaign, or through a sincere word of encouragement, we thank you in advance.

It takes a lot to fund a dream, and here's how it breaks down:
Room & Board - $2400
Tuition - $1600
Pointe Shoes (5 pair) - $700
Dancewear (leotards, skirts, tights) - $200
Other Dance Shoes (character, jazz, ballet flats) - $100

Tuition is due May 1, 2018. Room & Board is due May 16, 2018. Summer Intensive Dates: July 2-27, 2018.

Thank you so much for giving and spreading the word to help this beautiful young ballerina get one step closer to her dream. It means the world to us.

Sincerely,
Keda (A Proud Mama)
