In February 2017, Himalayan River Guide Association Nepal ran Nepal’s first official international standard, National Rafting Championship in collaboration with Japanese team coach; Takuya Ikeda, and the President of the International rafting federation. Team NKCC won all 4 phases of the championship. It was mentioned from the IRF president that this was the first time he had seen a team win all phases in an IRF standard competition. The team has made history and are now proud to call themselves Nepal National Rafting Team of 2017. Team Nepal has registered for the World Rafting Championships held in Japan from the 3rd – 9th of October 2017.
The team trained hard before the national championships and have been training even harder since. Training has included closed camp training with Bishnu Gurung and guest coaches Takuya Ikeda; 2 time world champion from Japan and Emily Evans; 1 time world champion from Great Britain lady's team on the Marsyangdi River with intense training in all categories; Slalom, head to head, sprint and down river race. The team were also lucky enough to complete intense fitness training in the Nepal army with Coach Rajiv Chand.
With the cost of training camps, flights and event entry the team is looking at close to $24,000 of team expenses. We are looking for some help from anyone who would like to support the team in Nepal’s first appearance in the World Rafting Championship.
The Team has been working hard and would hate to throw away this opportunity due to not being able to afford it.
