<div><strong>The scale of loss</strong>

<div>When the flood hit on 26 August, water levels in the Trishuli River rose by up to 9 metres in just 30 minutes — families had almost no warning. The Red Cross now estimates more than 90,000 people have been affected. Entire villages along the river have been wiped off the map, and roads, bridges, hydropower stations and water systems across Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts have been destroyed — cutting off the very communities that need help most.

<div><strong>Children are among the hardest hit</strong>

<div>UNICEF estimates more than 17,000 children in Nepal urgently need humanitarian assistance. At least 18 schools have been destroyed and another 20 damaged. Many children were separated from their families in the chaos and are now in makeshift relief centres while aid workers try to reunite them with loved ones.

<div><strong>Clean water is a life-or-death issue right now</strong>

<div>Flooding has contaminated local water systems across the affected districts. Survivors are going without safe drinking water, sanitation or basic hygiene supplies — conditions that put them at serious risk of disease on top of everything else they've lost.

<div><strong>The danger isn't over</strong>

<div>Authorities are still monitoring a glacial lake formed by the disaster that could trigger a second flood, and ongoing rain has repeatedly forced rescue teams to suspend search operations. Families are being told to move to higher ground even as they search for missing loved ones.
