Historic Nelson Theater Restoration Mt Jackson Va

Donation protected
This is a movement to raise money in order to renovate and restore the Nelson Theater in historic Mount Jackson. A venue that Patsy Cline, Jimmy Dean, Buck Ryan, Jimmy Dickens, and the Country Music Fair visited. The theater has been closed for 50  years as of this year. The existing structure is in decent shape, yet many renovations are required and can occur with your help. Funding is needed soon for us to begin work on the renovation process. The theater will be transformed into an open space for the community and the arts of the Shenandoah Valley to flourish.

Any and all donations are greatly accepted. No donation is too small. We greatly appreciate all help.

The spaces planned are as follows:

Nelson Theater: A 716 person theater with a stage for live performances, as well as a projector for movie showing. This space will be able to accommodate local bands which currently have no space. In addition to local bands, this space will be able to showcase the local high school and middle school bands, choirs, orchestras, competitive speaking events, one act plays, theater groups, and musical theater groups. This will be the largest theater venue in the area and will help restart the local economy which has been in decline. This can draw in outside music groups, public speakers running for elections, as well as many other groups that will draw the community together and bring people back to the Shenandoah Valley.

Poet's Lobby: This is the main area for individuals to interact and will host local poets and small story writers to present their work to the individuals in the lobby. This space will also house a popcorn machine, soda machine (or as the locals call it a, "soda jerk"), concessions for individuals listening to poems and going to the venues in the theater.

Community Arcade: This space will be used to house retro arcade games, a pool table, air hockey, as well as many other games for kids to play. This will be an excellent addition to the community as there is little for the local kids to do at night or during the day and this will give them a space to hang out in and interact with their friends.

Historic Facade and Ticket Booth: There are plans to completely restore the marque and the original ticket booth. This will have the lights, neon-like led tubing, new acrylic siding, as well as a new ticket booth to add to the historic feel and value. This will certainly be a place for you to stop and take a picture at night, or even during the day.

Plans for the theater are in three phases.

Phase I: Renovation of the facade (including the marque, stained glass, and ticket booth), patching up the roof (or if the funds are available, installing a green roof to mitigate grey water in the North Fork Shenandoah River), and clean up of the auditorium area.

Phase II: Complete renovation of the interior of the auditorium through replacing seats, stage, screen, and the projector room.

Phase III: Touch up of historic paintings, restoration of upper lobby, construction of the community arcade, and opening doors to the public.

Please join us as we try to restore the historic Nelson Theater in Mount Jackson, Virginia.
