Nelson Family Adoption

Donation protected
Our family is growing by two soon! We have been working on an adoption for the past two years, and are incredibly excited to have been matched to twin Burundian girls. Our adoption journey has been like many others’, a lot of time and energy and very little certainty on the outcome. Because we now have been matched, a lot of the uncertainty has gone away, and we are very excited to share this news with our friends and family more openly. The final steps to bring the girls home include the last set of adoption fees and the immigration and travel costs when the adoption is finalized, which we are planning for early 2018. While we have managed the process and fees thus far, we would greatly appreciate any support in these final costs needed to bring the girls home.

Tyler and I have been fortunate to have a lot of amazing experiences together the past ten years. Despite the financial, health and other challenges that come with adulthood, our work has given us unique opportunities to see the world, experience other cultures, learn new languages, and meet incredible people. The most rewarding experience through all of this, however, has been parenthood. I had Frieda in 2014 and she changed our lives. We have always known that adoption was part of our family’s plan, becoming parents only solidified that for us.

In our years working in underserved communities in and out of the United States, we have seen first-hand how many children there are in this world that need a loving home. Tyler’s work improving community health care services in Rwanda for the past five years has allowed us to create a home here. Burundi and Rwanda are neighboring, small central African countries with mostly rural populations. They share similar cultures, languages and unfortunately a violent history of internal conflict, but are full of positive and inspiring people. When we decided two years ago to actively begin an adoption process from the region where we are living, Rwanda did not legally allow for foreigners to adopt children, which is what led us to the twin Burundian girls we have now been matched to.

Our friends and families have been an essential part of everything we’ve done and we’re so fortunate to have such amazing people in our lives. It is comforting to know that these girls will not be joining just our family, but will be getting all of you too. Please give whatever you can as any support is helpful, and we hope you know how much we appreciate it.
