We recently celebrated our 10th anniversary at NELLIE'S SWEET SHOPPE in Smithville, Missouri.

We followed an opportunity and opened a SECOND location in HAMILTON, Missouri.... Home to  Missouri Star Quilt Company and birthplace of J.C. PENNEY.

T
ourist season in Hamilton is right around the corner, with buses full of quilters scheduled to start arriving next month. We could use your help to get ready for them. AND....as a small token of our appreciation, we would love to send you some of our DELICIOUS FUDGE!

Our Story:

In 2006, my sister, Janelle (Nellie) Morlock Tebbs, lived in Smithville with her husband, Tracy, and their 8 year-old daughter, Blake Emily.  My husband, our two youngest sons, both still in high school, and I lived a little over an hour south of my sister's family. Our parents were living inear Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Janelle was a 20+ year malignant melanoma survivor until early 2006 when it relapsed and spread aggessively.  The family troops rallied around her as she fought the battle. Our parents moved to Smithville from Minneapolis, and my family soon followed.
We were able to spend some quality time together during her last months, but in early 2007, we had to say "until we meet again" to her. Janelle left us with a big whole in our hearts but with many sweet memories as well.

Nellie's legacy:

In October of that year, we noticed a cute vacant building on Smithville's town square. Our mom, Jackie, said,  "That building looks like it should be a candy store."
This statement was followed by doors opening and a series of what mom called "God winks".
We soon opened "Nellie's Sweet Shoppe" on Smithville's historic town square.

The shoppe was named for and dedicated to "Nellie", a loving nickname for Janelle, a lover of life and sweets, too! Her signature statement and lifetime philosophy was "Take TIme to Enjoy Each Day!" This sentiment is prominently displayed in our shoppes as a reminder of her sweet influence in our lives. Furthermore, one corner in each shoppe is dedicated to Melanoma awareness, education, and fundraising.

Our mission:

It is our mission to help create wholesome memories and a sweet experience for our guests, by offering delicious hand-made fudge, retro-candy, fine chocolates, Kansas City-made ice cream, salt-water taffy, and seasonal treats.

Melanoma is close to our heart:

We hope to raise melanoma awareness by providing free educational information in each of our shoppes. We also sponsor and support regional Melanoma fundraising efforts.

The Fudge Tradition continues:

Our dad, Harley, has made more than 30 tons of fudge over the past 10 years and earned the title of "Fudgemaster". He is the face of Smithville Nellie's. Friends come in for coffee and a visit, kids come in for ice cream and a hug, and he continues to make a variety of delicious fudge flavors each week. I have learned from the best, and am now enjoying making fudge as well, carrying on a delicious tradition.

Sharing Nellie's in the Community:

Since 2015, we have also taken Nellie's on the road: we've hosted pop-up mini-fudge shoppes at the American Royal Rodeos, Home and Garden Shows, Hospital Auxiliary Events. Holiday Boutiques, Conventions, West Bottoms First Fridays, Melanoma runs,  fundraisers, and more.

Heavenly Help:

Our mom, Jackie, joined Nellie in late 2014.
We are aware that they continue to watch over and supervise us. Last summer, we were planning to host a pop-up mini-fudge shoppe at some events in Hamilton, Missouri aka Quilt Town USA. We were all at once, surprised, delighted, and terrified when the opportunity to open a second location presented itself. This was a much bigger deal than doing a pop-up! However, we have been welcomed, encouraged, led, inspired, and blessed as we've moved forward.

Help our expansion:

It would sure be SWEET if you would help us grow and expand. Help us purchase needed equipment, print additional marketing materials, and improve our website in time for the fast appoaching tourist season.

Please DONATE if you can to help us reach our goal, please SHARE with your frirnds, and earn FREE FUDGE for funding!
