What is Neighborhood Montessori?
Neighborhood Montessori is a new school opening this fall right in the heart of Dorchester for children ages 2.5 to 5. At Neighborhood Montessori, we take the natural curiosity of children and cultivate self-motivated, holistic development.
Building on Montessori principles, we focus on the whole child – emotional, physical, and intellectual. Through intentionally designed learning materials, children will learn basic scholastic and relational skills in a way that fosters abstraction and application to other areas of their little lives.
Established with a neighborhood mindset, our curriculum goes beyond A-B-C’s and 1-2-3’s to teach children at a young age how to maintain and better themselves, those around them, and their shared community.
Children will learn to read, cook, and work together. But most importantly, they will learn how to learn. Neighborhood Montessori kids will become independent, confident, and curious learners that value knowledge in all forms and that constantly explore the world around them.
Who am I?
I’m Nakia Reyes, born and raised in Greater-Boston. Since I was a young girl, I’ve dreamed and prepared to open a school. As a little one in foster care, I naturally fell into a motherly, yet collaborative role of helping my younger foster siblings learn about the world around them and how to move through it. Encouraged by my foster mother that was a teacher and encouraged independence, I knew by age 10 that I wanted to be a teacher and open my own school.
Why Now?
Now 25 years later, I’ve taken my years of education, American Montessori Society training, and experience in a variety of roles in schools throughout Boston to bring the holistic Montessori educational experience to children in Dorchester and surrounding neighborhoods.
Why Give?
Neighborhood Montessori is an educational alternative to regular daycare for toddlers and young children. Our goal is to make Montessori education affordable for families in Dorchester and surrounding neighborhoods that otherwise may not have access to it. Your donations make that dream a reality!
