Neighborhood Friends of Roy

Roy Rembert is a long time resident of our community who often rides the neighborhood on a red scooter looking for work.
Roy is 71, an air force veteran, and does his best earn enough money to get by each month (his $900/month social security check was garnished to just over $100 in August to cover medical expenses but is now back up to around $650). Roy has been doing work around our neighborhood and community many years - some may remember him riding his bike with the garden hose on the front offering to wash cars.
In 1993 Roy's wife was in a bad car accident, breaking her back in several places leaving her a paraplegic (an article on Roy and his wife can be found here) Since then things have gotten worse. Roy has sufffered two separate strokes affecting his mobility and speech, among other things, and of course his ability to work. Though that still doesn't keep him from working odd jobs, often pulling weeds, for a few dollars whenever he can. He has happily pulled weeds for me in my own front yard (Jason Ferguson).
Roy currently lives in the motel on Kennedy in Eatonville costing $760 a month (if he can pay a month at a time, $40 a day when he can't, which is often). On a positive note, Roy's wife Gladys is being well taken care of in Depugh in Winter Park.
I (Sean Dooley) have been to Roys home, have driven him to the VA for medical care, and have come to know Roy pretty well. As best I can tell Roy is a good man who's had a series of bad things happen to him.
Our goal is to help him find a more stable place to live (we're working on that today), and to raise $2,500 by the end of September to help secure the first few months of rent and living expenses. (NOTE- we more than doubled the goal and by the end of August! We've stretched the goal since a few more people said they wanted to give - THANK YOU!!)
