Neighborhood Acupuncture Project has been serving Austin since 2006 with low cost acupuncture/Chinese Medicine services.   On March 18th,  had to close the office due to the communal nature of our treatments in order to help do our part to decrease the spread of COVID19.  This is not something we could have ever anticipated having to do.  While we can provide a certain amount of services, it is only a drop in the our income bucket.   We still have to pay rent and would like to be able to provide a small supplemental income to our dedicated contract workers  and to the owners in order to make it through the next 3 months.

While Neighborhood Acupuncture Project is not a non-profit organization, we are closest to this in our mission and operations.  This puts us in an unusual position and makes it close to impossible to take out loans to borrow against our future.  If we take out loans (even if they are 0%), we will have to raise our sliding scale.  Because of our status as a business, we are not eligible for grants or tax breaks that a non profit might have access to.

We are sending out a call to the community.  Every little bit helps.

The money will first and foremost go to covering rent, utilities and supplies for the next 3 mos. This is approximately $16,500.

The remainder will be used to provide some supplemental income to help our contract workers, Cindy, Joanne, Pam, Christine and Dan and the owners, Tony and Laura.  

We do not know how long the "shelter-in-place" will be in effect.  What we do know is that even after May 1st,  we will still probably have to treat people 6 ft apart possibly til the end of the year.  Many of our patients with compromised immune systems (which are plenty) may not be able to return for some time.   This will affect N.A.P.'s income stream for months, if not until the end of the year. 
 
This amount should keep us from having to close our doors as we learn to adapt and figure out new ways to bring our medicine to the community.   If ever there was a time for this medicine, it is now!!
