About The Neediest Cases Fund

Established in 1911 by Adolph S. Ochs, publisher of The New York Times, The Neediest Cases Fund has raised over $330 million since its inception.

For over a century, The Fund has provided assistance to those who are facing tough times in New York and beyond.

Many of the profiles in The New York Times featured an individual or family who benefited from The Fund and illustrated the difference that even a modest amount of money can make to help those in need. The money is distributed through The Fund’s participating organizations, often in small amounts targeted to specific needs.

The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a not-for-profit public charity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
