These words prove to be very true in Needa’s case.
She is a fighter and a warrior!
She is #NeedaStrong!
On Monday, September 21st, 2015, our beloved was diagnosed with Stage 2b Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (a/k/a IDC Breast Cancer). Several weeks following her diagnoses, Needa tested positive for the BRCA1 gene. According to the National Cancer Institute, BRCA1 carriers have a 55-65% chance of developing breast cancer and a 39% chance of developing ovarian cancer, all before the age of 70. Could YOU imagine these odds?
Well… at 29 years old, this is Needa’s reality now and this is her story.
Since her diagnoses, Needa has undergone the following procedures:
-Several MRI’s and biopsy’s,
-A PET scan,
-Egg fertilization treatments (required to preserve her eggs prior to commencing chemo),
-Egg retrieval surgery (same as above),
-Port surgery, and
-3 chemotherapy sessions (10/15/2015, 10/29/2015, and 11/12/2015).
We are thankful that her prognosis is hopeful, but recognize the journey to remission will be a hard one. In the year that follows, she will undergo a double mastectomy, several rounds of intensive radiation therapy, and reconstructive surgery. Her medical team estimates her cancer treatment to last well into 2016. And even once she is done, recovery will not be immediate.
This process will take time.
She is an incredible human being (and the best person I know). She brings so much light and love to our lives. She is a gift to us all. Since her diagnoses, Needa has received a tremendous outpour of love. It doesn’t surprise me one bit - she’s the perfect friend. ♥ The world is just giving her back all the love she has given to others.
This is undoubtedly the hardest thing she has ever gone through. The emotional and financial burden of fighting and surviving breast cancer isn’t something anyone can prepare themselves for. This is where you (and this fund) come in. While we have collectively raised a little over $1,100.00 outside of this fund, additional resources ARE needed. We are reaching out to our amazingly supportive network of family and friends to help, in any and every way possible. No contribution is too small. Any donation is greatly appreciated and will be a huge help to Needa and her immediate family during the upcoming year.
A few examples of what the funds raised through this site will be used for:
-Medical treatment costs (chemo, radiation, and medication),
-Any and all procedures necessary to help protect and preserve Needa’s fertility (from the effects of chemo),
-Surgeries (Double Mastectomy and Reconstruction),
-Bills and expenses that will add up while Needa is working part-time, and
-Any other unanticipated costs that come along during the fight.
