Being diagnosed early on with Polycystic ovarian disease and hormone issues I was always heavier for as long as I can remember. I worked with countless doctors, trainers, and dietitians through the years. I was given advice, programs and plans to follow. I was put on medications, shakes, vigorous exercise programs all to which failed and I was defeated, especially being told by most of those people who were trying to help me that I was lying about what I was doing. I was told numerous times that I couldn’t possibly be following what they were telling me because no one doing the things I was doing should look that way.
I finally found a series of things that over multiple years have helped me drop some weight which I am proud of, however the journey hasn’t ended and is becoming more severe. My family physician has noticed my back starting to curve more (partially due to a condition with my spine called kyphosis) The pain in my back is getting more severe as time goes on. I am also having more and more infections on my body. He thinks a lot of this is due to all of the excess skin and body deformities that are there from losing over 100 pounds. After being referred to a plastic surgeon they have recommended a series of procedures to remove the excess skin and reshape the areas. By doing this they believe that the infections will decrease and that more importantly they can help save my spine before it gets worse and before becoming more hunchbacked. She said that all the excess area in the front is weighing my front half down and so my spine and shoulders are compensating and bending forward.
This is a very hard and embarrassing thing for me to be asking or talking about. I have always been very self conscious of these things and I just don’t speak of them, but I am concerned more about my health than my pride at this point. Thank you for taking a minute to read this, any help with donations or sharing this to get it out there is greatly appreciated.
