My 7 month old baby boy (red heeler) has been diagnosed with elbow dysplasia. I know it is the wrong time being Christmas and new years but this is my only hope to give my pup the best life I can..
Axle is a very happy loving pup, he has a special bond with my 11 yr old daughter and he loves everyone he has met so far. Swimming, fishing and playing with other dogs at the dog park is his favourite which he is not allowed to do anymore, he has to stay home which is heartbreaking to watch
He started limping out of the blue 6 wks ago and after alot of resting which is hard for a cattle dog and no improvement we decided to take him to the vet.
He got booked in 2 days later for sedation and alot of xrays which was costly right on Xmas but we just got there, needed an answer to what was wrong.. results were elbow dysplasia in his left elbow but also the disease has started in his right elbow. With that my heart sank I knew that wasnt good
The vet told us he would need surgery on both elbows to be able to live a longer pain free life. He has been put on anti inflammatory meds morning and night from the vet which now isn't helping him but i still give to him anyways just in the hope it gives a little relief for him..
Vet says we would possibly have to send him to Melbourne for that surgery to happen (we live in Tasmania) and it would be between 8 and 10 thousand but could be more which I just dont have the funds to be able to do.
I dont want him to live his last however long he has in pain he is only a baby and it just isn't fair on him. Im hoping I can get as much help as I can please to be able to help my poor boy get the surgery he needs before he can't walk on both his front legs thankyou for reading and I would be so appreciative of any help big or small.
