My name is Michael Everett. On August 26th 2017, I was in a horrible motorcycle accident. My accident was so bad, I crush the bones in my foot and damaged the skin and tissue. I had emergency surgery. They tried everything from plastic surgery to hyperbaric(oxygen chamber). I was put in a giant glass tube that was sealed with extreme pressure of oxygen. This was to heal the skin. Over a few tries only this did not work prior to the 5 surgeries I had in about a week and a half. So the last options they gave me were to cut partial of my foot or amputate my whole foot off. The half foot seemed like a good idea but since the bones were so crushed, the pain walking would of felt like smalls pieces of glass and i also would be taking pills for the rest of my life. So that being said I decided to go with the amputation. It was not easy at all with the decision. I cried so much saying "why why why". I was a very very active person in life. I cycled my bike in central park, rollerbladed, bmx, tennis, football. I loved everything. I thought this was going to stop me and my life was over. Afterwards I've learned to except it. What's done is done. You can not go back. As they were prepping me in the cold room, I was happier and happier. I couldn't wait. The amputation was the sixth surgery. After that I had high hopes and I was appreciative to life. I was lucky to be alive. I received a temporary artificial leg in October. It was just to learn to walk and such therapy. My swelling started going down a lot. I need a definitive leg to be active and go back to my job and make my living. A truck driver that is. I love my job very much. Honestly my job is one of the main reasons of my good spirits. So it was not easy with so much things coming at me all at once. My job terminated my insurance, I have no more disability funds to receive, credit card companies are calling me plenty of times threatening to send me to the collection agencies and worst of all they left me with a outstanding hospital bill that no one will believe. That's just some of my problems. Now sometimes I go through depression because I can not get another leg. I can not go back to work with this one because it hurts some times. I'm just asking for the some kind of help I can get. I just want to go to work and have my life back. I'm grateful for my life. Thank you for your time reading and to what ever contributions you can donate.
