I am raising funds to be able to give first necessity kits to migrant populations in Morocco (french below) Information on my work I have been doing fieldwork for years with population on displacement, from West and Central Africa. This particular migrant community in Morocco is fragile for many reasons: discrimination, challenging access to health-care and decent housing, as well as difficulties to access training and social assistance. During this period of COVID-19, they are particularly vulnerable because they survive on a day to day level and they depend on regular street mobility to live by begging, creating informal businesses, etc. Among the different populations present in Morocco, the English-speaking community is one of the most vulnerable because they do not have easy access to health-care information (which is mainly communicated in French and Arabic) or to social aids set up by associations or institutions. They also suffer overall from a stigma on the part of the local population, which is difficult to live with on a daily basis. I am renewing my commitments to women and girls from the Benin community, Edo State (Nigeria). These women are extremely precarious. They are almost all victims of sex and human trafficking through-out their perilous journey to Morocco where they are waiting to get an opportunity to Europe. But unfortunately, they arrive in Morocco with many traumas. Unseen from statistics and aid programs, they live by begging, prostitution and street trading and currently lack the resources to make basic purchases because of the limited access to public space. Who am I ? My name is Reuben Yemoh Odoi, I created The Minority Globe association in 2009. I have been involved in humanitarian for almost 20 years now and I have worked and collaborated with different NGOs such as Doctors Without Borders, Caritas or « Terre des Hommes » . As such, I carried out many health missions and distribution of food kits in migrant and refugee camps in Morocco. My experience allows me today to be an important actor on the field, and to be closer to the needs and issues of migrant communities. Thank you for your donations! There are no small gestures! Cette population au Maroc est fragile pour de nombreuses raisons : discriminations, difficultés d’accéder aux soins et à un logement décent ou encore à la formation et aux aides sociales. Durant la crise du COVID-19, il.elle.s sont particulièrement exposé.e.s car vivant au jour le jour, il.elle.s dépendent de l’accès à la rue et à l’espace public pour vivre (mendicité, commerces informels, etc.) Parmi les différentes populations en présence au Maroc, la communauté anglophone fait partie des personnes les plus vulnérables car il.elle.s n’ont pas facilement accès aux informations sanitaires (qui sont diffusées majoritairement en français et en arabe) ni aux programmes d’aide mis en place par les associations ou les institutions. Il.elle.s souffrent par ailleurs globalement d’une stigmatisation de la part de la population locale, qui est difficile à vivre au quotidien. Je renouvelle mon engagement auprès des femmes et des filles de la communauté Benin, Edo State (Nigéria). Ces femmes sont extrêmement précaires et les premières exposées à la crise du COVID-19. Elles sont presque toutes victimes de trafic sexuel durant leur traversée et arrivent au Maroc avec de nombreux traumatismes. Invisibilisées des statistiques et des programmes d’aide, elles vivent de la mendicité, de la prostitution et du commerce dans la rue et n’ont en ce moment pas accès aux ressources nécessaires pour faire des achats de première nécessité. Qui suis-je ? Je m’appelle Reuben Odoi, j’ai créé en 2009 mon association The Minority Globe.
