Keep Cody & Nick near Pepper!

Donation protected

Dear loved ones of Cody, Nick, and current heavyweight champ of the Oakland Kaiser NICU, Josephina Pepper:

Our community has done such an amazing job supporting our beloved Straussenbachers throughout this incredibly scary and challenging process. Some of you may have already contributed to their medical GoFundMe, which is helping to pay for the astronomical reality of what an ongoing medical emergency costs in our healthcare system. I know how profoundly grateful they are deep in their hearts and bones for this and all the kinds of support you've offered.

Unfortunately, besides the profound medical concerns and costs, there are all sorts of other incidental costs and challenges and one is simply figuring out how to suddenly pay two rents to keep their Mill Valley home and also stay close to Pepper in the Oakland Kaiser NICU, while being able to work much less than normal.

Luckily, a miraculous angel happened to be putting the finishing touches on a beautiful little eggplant-colored cottage a couple blocks from the hospital, heard their story the day before they were about to be kicked out of the hospital, and told them to head straight over there. This angel had never even met Cody and Nick and just heard what was happening to them and wanted to make sure they had somewhere safe and calm to go nearby their little one.

After the first week, it was clear that there was no more nourishing or convenient place for Cody and Nick to weather their new life schedule of round-the-clock Pepper hospital visits and milk pumping and delivery. Angel cottage owner then generously offered for them to stay as long as they needed, foregoing market rate, and asking just enough to cover expenses.

The first month has been covered, which means we're a third of the way to the finish line and all we need to raise to keep Cody and Nick in their little Oakland cottage until Pepper can go home in a couple months is $2600.

You've all already given so much, and Cody and Nick didn't want to make another public appeal, so I'm just sending this to our circle of friends and family in case anyone is still looking for ways to help.

Thanks and love and a tiny fist of power from the newest member of our tribe.
