Nea Kavala Refugee Camp Dry Food

Donation protected
As many of you know I'm currently working as one of two field coordinators with Drapen i Havet (A Drop in The Ocean), a volunteer organisation working in refugee camps in Greece to provide humanitarian assistance to the resident populations. This work is unpaid. In North Greece we work in Nea Kavala - a camp of 673 people (95% Syrian) of whom 327 (49%) are under 18 - with responsibility for the distribution of clothes (donated), fresh vegetables twice a week, and a 'basket' of dry foods every fortnight. As well as occasional one-off distributions - toys, hygiene products... etc.

This appeal is to contribute to ensuring the sustainability of the dry foods programme, which is self-funded by donations from volunteers. The basket of foods includes rice, tea, oil, sugar, eggs and is currently costed at EUR 1,488 per fortnight, this crowdfunder will pay for two fortnightly cycles guaranteeing staple foods for all of the residents of the camp.

For an idea of the conditions that the displaced people in Nea Kavala are experiencing, as well as a glimpse of our dry food distribution from Tuesday 10th January, please watch the attached report from Al Jazeera News:

Please contribute if you can, share if you will, and don't forget about the thousands of displaced people experiencing this ongoing misery. The money will be spent quickly, locally, and the food you buy will be in the hands of the recipients within the next few weeks.
