Baby Larusso's Memorial Fund

The unimaginable loss of a child is something that no parent should ever have to experience. This unexpected tragedy was brought upon my brother, Pepe,  and his girlfriend, Krystal,  on February 24th, 2015.

Pepe and Krystal were ecstatic to hear the ultrasound tech inform them "It's a boy!!"  The news of a boy was especially exciting as we have three girls in our family. (We are pink and princessed out ;)) So we wasted no time buying little boy outfits, discovering the color blue for the first time and throwing around ideas for his name.

As the months went by, the excitement grew, as did baby. He was most active at night with his tumbling and kicking. Feeling him move around was something his sisters enjoyed too, placing their small hands on Krystal's tummy, eagerly anticipating a kick or budge. It was the lack of those kicks and tumbles that brought attention to the fact that something wasn't right.

On Monday, February 23rd, Krystal noticed that the baby hadn't been very active. She payed close attention monitoring him. She looked into ways to get him moving, from doing jumping jacks to chugging ice cold water. Nothing worked.

In the early morning of February 24th, hoping for the the best but fearing the worst, Krystal made her way to the hospital to have the doctors explain what may be going on with the baby. The doctor tried her best to find signs of activity from the baby, but after an hour of hopeful attempts, Krystal's fears were confirmed. A heartbeat could not be found.

No words can express the hurt and devastation felt.  It was like a bad dream.

They had to induce labor. The thought of giving birth to the baby, yet leaving the hospital without him, was heartbreaking for Krystal. It was hard for us all. We surrounded her and Pepe with love and searched for comforting words for them.

Larusso King Jacinto Alfaro was born at 6:02am on February 25th. He weighed 1 lb 4.6 oz and was 11 3/4 inches long. He had black hair and prominent eyebrows, perfect cupid bow lips and a petite little nose. He had his dad's feet and Krystal's ears. He stole our hearts and our tears flowed endlessly for his lifeless tiny body.

An extremely rare accident in the womb was the cause of his death. His umbilical cord, where it connects to his belly, was twisted so tightly that it pinched off all supply of oxygen, blood and nutrients.

There is a long road of healing ahead of them and this will help ease the financial stresses of time away from work and the services for their baby boy.

Please join us this Sunday, March 1st, at 2pm at Evergreen Memorial Chapel (737 E St), as we send this tiny angel on his way.

Thank you all for your kind words, prayers and support during this difficult time.
