Barb's Memorial Fund

My sister and I are setting up this memorial fund to help cover the many costs that have come from our mom Barbara Onyett's long battle with breast cancer.  Our mom has always been a fighter and wasn't about to let something like cancer slow her down.  Even after going through chemotherapy a double masectomy and radiation she kept going.  Even when she was sick and feeling tired she made sure to make it to as many of the grandkids ballgames as she could, she helped come remodel my house and you would see her out on her mower anytime she could sneak out there without us stopping here.  She refused to not just give up and let cancer win, even when we were told it was back again she still kept fighting.  She has made sure to share her cancer story with people she met along the way. Even the people she met  in the doctor offices she shared her story trying to give them hope that they too could beat this terrible disease.  In November of 2014 we were told yet again that her cancer had returned and was more aggresive than ever before, her medical team was so shocked by the rapid spread of the disease that we no longer had any options. Mom spent over 6 weeks at  Mercy hospital in Des Moines and then we got the heartbreaking news that she only had 30 days left with us. We brought her home to be surronded by her family and friends.  We have watched her decline slowly and painfully as we await her to be called home.  This has been a deeply emotional and painful time for our family. Not only has it been physically and mentally draining it has also been a financial struggle.  

   Perhaps you sent a lovely card or sat quiety in a chair.

          Perhaps you sent flowers. If so, we saw it there.

                  Perhaps you spoke the kindest words

                             as anyone could say.

                 Perhaps you were not there at all ,

                      Just thought of us that day,

         Whatever you did to console our hearts,

         We thank you so much, Whatever the part.
