NCS Needs a Boiler!

This 2016 winter - my first at Northern Children’s Services (Northern) - is one in which we face an emergency. Our boiler has stopped working and this has disrupted our ability to operate and serve children, youth and families. This is an urgent situation for Northern and one that hits us at a very bad time. We simply do not have the funds to support a new boiler.
Our boiler is close to 50 years old and has—for the most part—faithfully provided Northern with oil heat that warms three of our buildings on our campus - Hutter, Lowry, and Clarency Halls.
Just days before a record-breaking winter storm hit our area, our boiler failed – this time for the last time. It cannot be repaired. Our only option is to replace it.
This has meant cancelling our programs for low-income medical assistance eligible children, youth and families that are served in these buildings. For example, our after-school behavioral health program for 60 vulnerable children from various public schools across Philadelphia that rely on our services has been cancelled. However, against all odds and despite unbearable conditions, Northern continues to move forward simply because giving up is not an option.
We are all immersed in and in love with the work that we do twenty-four hours, 7 days a week to support the healing, safety, and growth of the children, youth, families and communities that we serve. What keeps us motivated during these tough times is the incredible support from you, our community of dedicated supporters. Right now, we need your help and assistance more than ever. Without a reliable, efficient, and safe heating system, we cannot do our important work and that is simply not an option.
We ask that you help us spread the word! This is and always will be our home, as well as the safe haven for the many children, youth and families, who rely on our services. Please contribute to our campaign to replace the boiler.
