Texas Master Chorale Orchestra Fundraising Project

Texas Master Chorale has an interesting challenge, and would welcome your support!

What is the challenge?

Texas Master Chorale needs to hire a 21 piece orchestra quickly for the spring concert next month.  This is an unexpected expense of about $9,000 we didn’t plan for when the budget was set last summer.

Why an orchestra is needed:

Here is the background: The 4,000 member Texas Choral Directors Association, or TCDA, has invited the chorale to be the honor choir of the Community Choruses/University Choruses division and perform at the association’s 60th anniversary convention in San Antonio.  It is a great honor to receive this invitation and we are very excited about it.

The chorale will perform Mozart’s Solemn Vespers and Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass, a new piece, for about 2,000 members of the association on July 24th.  For this performance we will be accompanied by members of the Texas Orchestra Directors Association.

The concert will be dedicated to the memory of Dr. Bev Henson, the second president of TCDA and the director that premiered the Mozart Solemn Vespers at the TCDA convention in 1965.

Now to get to the main point: The original program for the spring concert did not require an orchestra.  However, after receiving the invitation, it was decided to change the spring program to be the same as for the TCDA concert.

This will allow the chorale to properly prepare well in advance of the TCDA concert by first performing the program locally with orchestra.  As a result we will be well equipped to represent our community and organization in the best way possible. Since both pieces were written for orchestra accompaniment, we decided to ramp up an effort to raise the funds quickly.

The benefits of adding an orchestra:

·         Our patrons and concert goers in the Houston area will get a preview of the TCDA concert, and experience a performance that will be greatly enriched by live orchestra accompaniment, just as the composers intended.

·         In addition, the chorale will be much better prepared for the TCDA concert since we will have already performed the pieces with an orchestra.

·         And, live music and the arts in general will be supported.
