For my Niece... The Pyles Family
The post that no parent should ever have to write:
"Hannah's Joy"
Our sweet Hannah Joy was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma this week. This is a rare form of pediatric cancer. When we arrived at Children's Hospital on Friday, we felt all the things. Shocked, scared, sad, mad, grief, guilt and anything else any parents would likely feel.
The tumor is in her abdomen and it's fairly large and pushing on some of the surrounding organs to make room, which would explain her constant pain. This can also cause fevers which explains why Hannah has experienced quite a few fevers over the first half of the year without other symptoms.
We feel blessed to live in Pittsburgh so close to this amazing hospital. While we have only been here a short while, it's clear that the staff here is ready, willing and completely able to give Hannah the best possible care. And thanks to covid restrictions, they have become our only listening ears as well.
She's had her biopsies and various scans. She's had her broviac put in place, and is ready to start her first chemo treatment tomorrow!!! We don't know what the next year will look like for our family. We do know that Hannah has the biggest army of prayer and support surrounding her right now! And we are so so very thankful for that. Please keep the prayers coming.
This is how you can be praying for our family right now:
Pray for Chris and I for strength to take care of Hannah while still giving Abigail the nurturing she needs as well. And that Chris can balance also working from home with me in and out at the hospital for weeks.
Pray for Abigail- that she would understand this diagnosis. She's been adapting well with grandparents watching her but she does miss her sister and when our family is reunited it will be different.
Pray for her doctors and nurses- these amazing people deserve so many awards. You know how hard it is to recognize that someone is literally saving your baby's life...and you cannot give them a hug?!?!? (Thanks a million, 2020).
And most importantly, pray for Hannah. Pray that God would work a miracle in her little body and pray that the chemo and treatment plan will work quickly to relieve some of her pain.
And for those that have, and will continue to support us through gift cards, meals, grass cutting, fun toys to keep Hannah busy in the hospital, and baby sitting for Abigail- we really can't thank you enough! In the words of Mister Rogers, "Look for the helpers". We didn't even have to look that hard to find you. You are all amazing and a piece of our baby's story. And an amazing story she will have ❤️
Love- The Pyles Family
