“Urgent Call for Relief in Palestine for Families Affected by COVID-19”
We are launching this campaign on behalf of our friend Abdallah and the many families that have lost an income due to Covid-19.
"Today, the faces of Palestinians who rely on the support and curiosity of people from around the world are currently facing extreme economic challenges due to COVID-19. We're launching this campaign to help support them through this crisis."
The coronavirus COVID-19 has severely impacted the lives of hundreds of people who live in Hebron, Bethlehem, the refugee camps and many other towns. Since March 2020, the borders have been shut down, and the waves of tourists that many businesses are dependent on stopped immediately. Weeks of no work turned into months and with little warning or time to prepare, families started to feel the effects quickly.
Over the past five years, Abdallah Maraka, a tour guide from Hebron, prepared and led a program for an authentic tour in the old towns of Hebron, Bethlehem and the nearby refugee camps. He connected with vulnerable families to join this program in a variety of ways - cooking traditional meals, hosting tourists, sharing experiences and insights, and as taxi drivers. A number of families and individuals decided to join and in exchange for providing an authentic and honest experience for tourists, they could cover their basic economic needs.
Since COVID-19, these are the families, workers, and businesses that no longer have customer's, can't take out loans, and don't have many options for income as the economy is shut down.
Your help is needed.
According to the ministry of health, another wave of COVID-19 is expected in late 2020 and 2021. This will further delay income for these families, which is why we're hoping to raise $50,000 to support them.
The funds will be distributed to the affected families according to their current economic situation and how many dependents live in the house with them.
Funds will be used to cover the basic expenses and needs for the families such as university tuition fees, school supplies, food, and utilities.
