My name is Harvey Dawkins and I was born with cerebral palsy. I am a Home Depot store associate. I am an inspirational speaker. I am a Special Olympics volunteer. I am a triathlete. I am a bicyclist who is riding to raise funds to find a cure for my friends with multiple sclerosis. My goal is to travel to all 50 states to fundraise and ride in each state’s Bike MS ride.
The purpose of the rides is to raise money for multiple sclerosis research and other services supported by the National MS Society. The rides typically take place over the course of two days and are generally around 150 miles long. I have already participated in Bike MS for New Jersey, Georgia, Texas, Virginia, and Florida. That’s five down and only 45 more states to go! I need your donations to help me meet the fundraising requirements for each Bike MS ride and to cover the travel expenses to get me there. My next event is Bike MS Colorado 2015. To cover both the minimum Bike MS fundraising requirements and my travel expenses, it costs $1000 per state to participate in the rides. Please help me reach my goal of riding in all 50 states, or finding a cure for MS, whichever comes first.
I also participate in triathlons that benefit other medical research charities to find cures for other diseases like autism. I use my journey of overcoming physical challenges through triathlons and endurance cycling to inspire others to set and achieve their goals and make dreams they thought impossible a reality. I have spoken at the CPNJ Horizon School for special needs children, Lincoln High School – Philadelphia, the YMCA Fundraiser in Burlington NJ, and the Rotary clubs of Burlington and Willingboro NJ. I enjoy sharing my passion for achieving personal goals, overcoming adversity, and inspiring others by speaking at events.
