My name is Naysa Peake, and I am an English Student with a concentration in Creative Writing studying at (the illustrious might I add) North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. As I delve deeper into my studies at an HBCU, I can garner not only my love for education but my curiosity and appreciation for a culture shaped to nurture the black mind and spirit. I became inspired by the beautiful black minds of my peers that I am surrounded by every day and also learning about black scholars that I would have never been exposed to if it weren’t for the nurturing education I am receiving.
With that in mind, the incredible opportunity to study abroad has been offered to me, and this summer myself and a select group of students will be traveling to Berlin Germany where I will immerse myself in the culture of “Black Berlin.” During my studying abroad I will be allowed the opportunity to explore the arts of black German creators and study the impact of the African diaspora in Germany.
I have already put myself to work in raising the appropriate funds for my trip, and by winning the National EF College Tour Study Abroad Grant Scholarship (yay!) I am that much closer to my goal.
I recognize that this is an opportunity of a lifetime, and I am already so grateful for my parents who have contributed in many different ways to this trip. As a student, I am now asking friends and family to help me reach my goal to fund this opportunity.
I am extremely grateful for ANYTHING you have to offer, and please know your investment in my future will not go in vain.
