NAVIDAD EN MORIA CAMP

Querido Papá Noel:

Te escribo desde el campamento de refugiados de Moria, en Lesbos, Grecia.

Me llamo Luz y soy voluntaria de la ONG Española Light Without Borders que ofrece asistencia oftalmológica para los refugiados dentro del campamento.  Llevo casi tres años asistiendo a los más vulnerables. La vida en el campamento és muy difícil y la llegada masiva de refugiados en las últimas semanas junto con  el frío y las lluvias complica más la situación.

Alrededor de 16100 refugiados viven en el campamento de los cuales unos 4000 són niños. Muchos de ellos llegaron con sus familias y otros sin acompañar ( Alrededor de 1000 ). Viven en minúsculas tiendas de campaña y los más afortunados en Iso Boxes ( casetas).

A los niños que vienen a la clínica les facilitamos gafas ( a los que las necesitan) y algún que otro regalito como globos, caramelos, colores, mochilas para ir al cole, muñecos…y siempre marchan  muy felices.
Muchos de estos niños lo  han perdido todo: su hogar, familiares, y preocupados por un futuro incierto.
Mi vida está dedicada a ellos y me parte el alma verles sufrir  la consecuencias de la guerra, la violencia y la exclusión.

Este año me gustaría pedirte en nombre de todos los niños de Moria camp que trajeras en tu trineo, juguetes, material escolar, muñecas, peluches, calcetines, calzado.
  Y carga tu trineo con mucho amor y esperanza! para que se sientan queridos y especiales y no pierdan el espíritu de la niñez. Mi deseo y esperanza és que con tu ayuda podamos hacerlo realidad.

CHRISTMAS IN MORIA CAMP

Dear Santa Claus:

I am writing to you from the Moria refugee camp in Lesbos, Greece.

My name is Luz and I am a volunteer at the Spanish NGO Light Without Borders that offers ophthalmological assistance for refugees inside the camp. I have been working in the camp for almost three years.

Life in the camp is  difficult and the massive influx of refugees in recent weeks along with the cold and the rains complicates the situation. Some 16,100 refugees live in the camp of which about 4000 are children. Many of them arrived with their families and some (around 1000) are unaccompanied. They live in small tents and the luckier ones in container boxes.

We often give balloons, sweets, rucksacks, or little dolls to the children who visit our clinic - and they always leave with a smile.
Many of these children have lost their homes and families and have worries and concerns for their future.
My life is dedicated to vulnerable people and it breaks my heart to see them suffer the consequence of war, violence and exclusion.

I would like to ask you on behalf of all the children of Moria camp that this year you load your sleigh with toys, school supplies, dolls, stuffed animals, socks, and footwear.

Please load your sleigh with  love and hope so that the children feel special and do not loose the spirit of childhood. My wish and hope is that with your help we can make it happen.

Vuestra ayuda és fundamental para poder hacer realidad mi sueño y deseo  para  éstos niños refugiados para ésta Navidad en el campamento de Moria.

Ayúdanos a hacerlo posible!
El invierno pasado lanzamos la Operación Calcetín consiguiendo traer un contenedor lleno de calcetines, ropa y calzado para los niños refugiados de Moria. Fué muy necesario y muy apreciado.
Todo ello gracias a vuestro amor y solidaridad. 

 Me gustaría que llenases también las estanterias vacías de la sala de juegos de  Safe Zone (  zona del campamento donde viven unos 60 niños, algunos huérfanos y otros que llegaron  solos a Lesbos viven en una zona de seguridad) con  libros educativos en inglés, juegos, acuarelas, colores...muñecos. 

Los fondos obtenidos se utilizarán para comprar los juguetes y material escolar en establecimientos locales, y por tanto poder apoyar a la economía local. 

   El dinero recaudado se ingresará en la cuenta de Light Without Borders para posteriormente  hacer el pago en los establecimientos locales. Daré detalles de los gastos en un informe, de los regalos que se compren para los niños refugiados gracias a vuestras donaciones.

I would love also that you fill the empty shelves at the container where  the children play,  at Safe zone in Moria camp ( where almost 60 unaccompanied  children, some of them orphans) with toys, puzzles, books, water colours, school supplies, dolls...

Last winter we launched  Sock Project , which was able to fund warm socks, clothes and shoes for the children in Moria. They were much needed and appreciated.
This year, the funds obtained will be used to buy toys and school supplies in local shops, and therefore also supporting the local economy.
The money raised will be deposited in the Light Without Borders account in order to  make the payment at the local shops. I will give details of the expenses in a report, of the gifts purchased for the  refugee children thanks to your donations.

Misión de Light Without Borders:

Soy Luz Carmona, fundadora y voluntaria de la pequeña  ong. Light Without Borders ( NIF:G677029462).
Llevo dos años y medio en Lesbos llevando un proyecto de oftalmología en el campamento de refugiados de Moria y  acompañamiento emocional con esencias florales para refugiados y voluntarios.

En Septiembre del año 2016 marché en mi viejito Panda, cargada con más de 800 pares de gafas graduadas donadas y 30 kgs de esencias florales, cruzando Italia y Grecia hasta llegar a la isla de Lesbos como voluntaria independiente.

Desde principios del 2018  Light Without Borders ofrece servicios gratuitos de optometría y oftalmología para refugiados en Lesbos dentro del campamento de Moria donde hemos visitado a casi  2000 pacientes y facilitado gafas a unos 1000. LWB ha cambiado la vida de cientos de personas.
  El proyecto funciona exclusivamente con los esfuerzos de voluntarios.

Light Without Borders Mission

I am Luz Carmona, founder and volunteer of the small NGO. Light Without Borders (NIF: G677029462).
I have been in Lesbos for two and a half years, and operate the only opticians and ophthalmology clinic in the Moria refugee camp. We also provide floral essences to refugees and volunteers.

In September 2016 I travelled as an independent volunteer in my old Panda, loaded with more than 800 pairs of donated prescription glasses and 30 kg of floral essences, crossing Italy and Greece until I reached the island of Lesbos.

Since beginning of 2018 Light Without Borders provide free optometry and ophthalmic services and prescription glasses to people in need at Moria refugee camp.We have seen nearly 2000 patients and provided glasses to approximately 1000 people. LWB has changed the lives of hundreds of people.
  The project is run exclusively by volunteers efforts.
