In 2015, our colleague and friend Scott Hildebrand received the devastating news that he had been diagnosed with colon cancer. For those of you who may not know Scott, he is our main technician in the Indiana office and has been the driving force in that area for a long time.
Radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, and countless hospital visits started, turning Scott and his family’s world upside down for more than a year. To the amazement of all his co-workers, Scott continued to work a 40-hr work week, dealing with nausea and side effects, only taking a short break for his first surgical procedure. After enduring all the necessary medical procedures, Scott was given the news that his cancer had gone into remission and there was no further sign of the cancer remaining in his body in early 2016. Follow-up scans were scheduled on a semi-annual basis, and all signs showed clear with no re-emergence of the cancer. Scott was finally able to resume a normal life, enjoying time with his wife Mary, step-children, and several grandchildren.
In early 2018 Scott went for a scheduled scan and was given the devastating news that spotting had been found on his liver and lymph nodes. A biopsy followed with an additional scan and the physician’s delivered the terrible news that the cancer had returned, but this time it had spread to his liver and lymph nodes. Scott resumed chemotherapy and treatments immediately and was able to continue working on a normal basis despite receiving 100hrs of chemotherapy a month, fighting through the nausea and side effects.
As the treatments have progressed Scott has begun to experience more severe side effects of the various treatments he has been undergoing – trouble with eye site, loss of feeling in his fingers and toes, balance issues, and just a general feeling of sluggishness. On the advisement of his oncologist he has had to resign his position with NAVCO to focus on health and getting past his latest battle with this horrible disease. Scott is obviously devastated and more then anything just wants to get back to work and a normal routine.
Scott is one of the kindest, most generous, and gracious individuals anyone could ever meet, he exemplifies integrity and has never met a stranger. He would go to the ends of the earth to help anyone he could and now is the time we can help make a difference in the life of an individual who has done so much for others throughout his life.
Well wishes are always appreciated by Scott and he isn’t the type of guy to ever ask for any help, but to be honest he needs as much monetary support as possible due to the extreme medical costs associated with the types of treatments he will need to beat this cancer and send it packing.
Anything anyone can contribute would be greatly appreciated by Scott and his family. We know he will beat what lies ahead and will be back working side by side with us before we know it. Let’s all pull together and show Scott our support!
