For several years and with greater frequency the past 2 years, I have heard people from around the corner to Iceland say "I'm so glad you're still here". If I could put a price on existing , I might not be forced to move. But the big red "Retail Space for Lease " sign in the window cannot be answered by me. After 49 years of faithfully existing at 203 Bleecker St as a part of the neighborhood, I will still be a part of the neighborhood . Just a couple of blocks further west. I was fortunate enough to get a lease at 46 Carmine St.
The workshop is coming out of the basement at 203 Bleecker and into the sunlight at our new store. This will be an arduous task. Old machines are not easily moved. My goal is to faithfully recreate Native Leather at 46 Carmine. What was always a work in progress depending on pieces found and layered on over the many years, must now be strategically placed in what is now an empty box.
The first order of business is to get a licensed plumber to install a sink where one used to be, and put a radiator back in the front of the store. I will need an electrician to install new lights and 2 ceiling fans as well as make sure my machines get enough juice.
The awning will need a new cover. The exterior needs a new coat of paint or two. Black , the current color, just wont do.
I have paid the first month's rent and three month's security. But the new landlord requires three more month's security .
If you were sad to see the big red For Rent sign in my window and equally happy to know that I was moving only a couple of blocks away then I could really use your help.
