National Day Of Action - August 9, 2020

When we can heal together we can build together

Peace and Power to all of those in solidarity with ending Mass Incarceration in America.

On behalf of the Dignity Act Now Collective, we are sending you strength, support, and solidarity in this moment and beyond. The Dignity Act Now Collective is a group of Black, Impacted, and Gender-Oppressed people in Pennsylvania. As the most vulnerable population in our community, Black mothers and caregivers who are currently and formerly incarcerated experience gender oppression as well racism. Black Gendered-Oppressed people experience the impact of incarceration at 500 times the rate of Black men. Reports show that 70% of women in prisons and jails are mothers and caretakers. We also know, that 86% of Black Gender-Oppressed people have experienced physical and/or sexual violence prior to incarceration. Among Black transgender people, nearly half (47%) will be incarcerated during their lifetime. These statistics not only demonstrate a public health crisis but also the demands for immediate systemic change.

We are calling on you as Supporters and Allies for a National Day of Action on August 9, 2020. Together, we must end race, gender, and class discrimination. The goal of this day is to raise awareness, invoke collective community healing, and empower Black Gender-Oppressed people. Self-care is dependent on creating spaces of revolutionary love mixed with intentional community support and a dash of art and culture - all of these components are critical to maintain a healthy mind, body, and soul.

In Response to our call for your support and solidarity of National Day of Action on August 9, 2020, we invite you to participate in the following ways:

Volunteer Organization -
provide and oversee volunteers who will support with setup and break down of the event at Malcolm X Park and The One Art Community Center. Distribution of mask, water, food, Sankofa LOVE bags, and sanitation to make the event COVID-19 friendly.

Core Organizing Organization -
provide a community resource table, opportunity to speak at the event, and/or join the Planning Committee.

Sponsoring Organization -
Monetary, In-Kind, and/or Items Donations.

Our funding goal is to raise $50,000. These funds will support the Nazura Housing Project which will provide transitional housing for returning Black mothers and caregivers. Donations will also provide funding for Sankofa LOVE bags through a partnership with Sankofa Healing Studio. The Sankofa LOVE bags, a community service project, includes menstrual hygiene products, community resource information, and items that promote self-care.

On this National Day of Action, we are calling upon you to ignite revolutionary change!

Yours in Solidarity,
