My name is Ross Durkin and I am Station Manager for National Coastwatch Institution at Bass Point on the Lizard in Cornwall. We last carried out a crowdfunding campaign through GoFundMe in 2022 and, through the generosity of our supporters, raised enough to carry out major structural repairs to the exterior of our lookout building.
We now have to turn our attention to the interior, though some external painting is also in our schedule of works. We survived storm Goretti largely intact, but the strong winds and rain over recent years have left some of our interior workspaces in desperate need of repair. We have worked through all the storms without pause, but the time has come when, if we don't carry out the necessary repairs, we are likely to face future disruption to our watchkeepeing programme.
With the exception of painting the outside, none of the jobs are massive, but all will take time and materials, so we are asking anyone with an interest in what we do to help where possible. Our normal fundraising efforts will continue in the meantime. However, the requirement of the project will exceed what we can expect to raise, hence this crowdfunding campaign.
