Nathan’s Heart Surgery Fund

Donation protected
Nathan is my nephew from Ghana.
Nathan was born on October 1, 2015 with a congenital heart defect called tetralogy of fallot with moderate pulmonary stenosis. Tetralogy of the fallot is a rare, complex heart defect that occurs in about 5 out of every 10,000 babies. It affects boys and girls equally. It involves four heart defects:

• a large ventricular septal defect
• pulmonary stenosis
• right ventricular hypertrophy
• an overriding aorta

Together, these four defects mean that not enough blood is able to reach the lungs to get oxygen, and oxygen-poor blood flows out to Nathan’s body.

This condition is fatal.

In Nathan’s case, he suffers from unconscious episodes on average once a week. While he regains full consciousness after 15 minutes, the duration of each episode has been intensifying.  Having this defect anywhere is heartbreaking but in Ghana even more so as there is lack of sufficient care to ensure Nathan comes out with the best chance to survive.

For this reason, all efforts were turned to finding him care outside of Ghana to repair his heart.  Through some incredible organization, filling out a lot of applications and the generosity of countless friends, we finally received the great news that Nathan will be able to get the desperately needed operation at Hospital Sant Joan de Deu in Barcelona, Spain (https://www.sjdhospitalbarcelona.org/en ).

Things start now..

We are hoping to raise funds to help with their 2-3 months trip and stay in Barcelona and the after surgery care that Nathan will need.

Thank you for your help. We greatly appreciate everything.
