Nathan's Back surgery

Well, it’s been a long road. 6 years and 6 spinal surgeries! soon to be a 7th, and crosses fingers for the 7th time, our last. 
This is my husband Nathan. He ruptured a disk in his back at work 6 years ago and has had to undergo multiple surgeries. Things such as laminectomies, Injections, Spinal Fusions and even removal of the fusion brackets due to some negative reaction to the metal.
Currently, Nathan has been dealing with severe nerve pain down his leg and in his lower back due to the multiple surgeries, a slipped screw from his fusion bracket rubbing on his sciatic nerve, and a bone spur that also happen to grab on to the same sciatic nerve.
Nathan has been unable to work since the injury and has gone back to school for retraining, He is currently in the 1st year of his bachelor’s degree program and is scheduled to graduate next year.
His nerve pain has slowly been getting worse, and the medications he’s on making it hard for him to study for school. Things like walking, sitting for more than 20 min and sleeping have become very difficult for him.
I won’t lie, as with most prolonged medical issues, things have been long and rough at times. There are breaks in the storm and there are days when it rains.
Well, when it rains it pours as they say.
We have just scheduled Nathan's back surgery with the heavy news that his disability insurance has changed and instead of a small deductible we are going to have to pay about $6,000 out of pocket. Which we don't have.
This final surgery is a spinal stimulator which helps disrupt the nerves pain so that the brain doesn’t receive the signal.
Nathan had the spinal stimulator trial; a test unit is a temporary implant that has wires going into the spine and a battery pack that sits on a small belt around the waist. This was put in at the end of December, and it worked very well. His spasms subsided, and his leg didn’t nearly ache as much as it has in years. He even slept at night despite the wires and such attached to his back. For me, the best part was his laugh and his smile. I haven’t seen him that happy in years.
Nathan's surgery is scheduled for February 16th.
