Further hot metal knowledge

Donation protected
Hi, I am Nathan Kimpell, a self employed artist blacksmith who runs a fabrication design-build smithy.  I am a current member of the Northern Rockies Blacksmith Association and a past board member of the same association. I work by myself and have started to teach others the art of blacksmithing from my smithy.

I am trying to raise money to help pay for the opportunity to study under two artist smiths in Israel, Uri Hofi and Zeevik Gottlieb, both are world renowned smiths that teach and work with a sculptural emphasis.

I will match the funds for this trip.  I am marriedand we have two children whom depend greatly on my monthly income. The schooling for two weeks costs $5000.00. My goal is to  raise the cost of the schooling.  I will pay for the round trip air fare, meals and incidental expenses while in Israel.  I will also provide for my family during this time.

I am trying to purchase my air fare in the next six weeks in order to secure a good price. Once the air fare is purchased I will define a detailed plan for the next eight months which will include smithy events and commitments already scheduled and completion or delivery of current and proposed contractural agreements.

I consider this to be a once in a lifetime opportunity that I should move heaven and earth to engage in.  I will learn new ways to manipulate and move metal along with more detailed and intense tool making and joinery from  two smiths that are held in very high regard.  Uri is 80 years old and still works daily in his smithy. He learned the trade from other world renowned, now deceased, smiths and has 30 plus years of  applied knowledge.  Zeevik has been working with and under Uri and other world renowned smiths for the last 20 years and is formally working from Uri's smithy for the next year while building his own school.  Zeevik won the world blacksmith competition in Stia, Italy in 2009. Zeevik will be instructing as well. The amount of knowledge the two possess is amazing and they are willing to share this knowledge with me.  I will be able to bring this knowledge back to the United States and teach it and utilize it in my design and production work.

This is the first time I have tried to raise money.  I am a self made person who has learned from other smiths in the Rockies and Nova Scotia and from intense reading and research.  I have been able to forge a life as an artist blacksmith.  I feel very lucky to live in a community that supports artistic passion, creativity and excellence in blacksmithing. I will be able to continue to give back to my community with this new knowledge and that makes where I live a richer place.
