A New Beginning for Nathan

Oh how time flies –

On June 3rd I graduated from Braham High School.
On June 30th I was on my way to my new Concrete Job.

That morning I was involved in a life changing car accident, which has left me paralyzed from the chest down.

On July 11th I turned 18.

By July 25th I was able to eat solid foods!  That cheeseburger tasted SOOOOO good.

Most of June and July were spent at Hennepin County Medical Center letting my body adjust to its new condition.

By August 2nd I have moved to Courage Kenny Rehabilitation @ Allina.  Here they have been working on strengthening my biceps and shoulders.  They have also shown me how to eat, write, brush my teeth, drink from a cup, and drive a wheelchair independently or with minimal assistance.  All things I’ll need to be able to do!

On September 13th I am scheduled to graduate to a new Rehabilitation facility – Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute @ Golden Valley.  Here they will continue with more therapy that I haven’t tried yet.  More electrical stimulation for my arms and legs and aquatic exercises in a pool.  All of these things sound so challenging, but I’m excited to learn new things and strengthen my muscles.  This program will last approximately 1-2 months and then I will be coming home.  

My condition comes with expenses – handicap accessible housing, special transportation with wheelchair accessibility, and adaptive medical equipment that will allow me to be self-reliant as I grow into a strong and productive young man.

My family and friends will be holding a benefit for me on November 19th from 2p.m. – 7 p.m at the Rush City Community Center in Rush City, MN.  We would appreciate any donations you would be willing to make towards my future.
