My sweet co-worker’s son, Nathan, a single father of 3 children has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. Please read the excerpts I’ve pasted below from his mother’s emails detailing the severity of his situation and consider donating if you are able to do so.  I will continue to update as I receive information. From Nathan’s Mother:

***September 19, 2018:

”I feel it is important to inform you of my son’s serious illness. He was not feeling well for several weeks but we thought it was due to a dental abscess. His condition worsened and he finally went to an urgent care on Sunday, September 9 where they had him immediately go to Mercy Hospital. At Mercy, tests revealed his white blood cell count was over 400,000 (normal is 4,000 - 10,000). He has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia and spent the first week in ICU at Mercy. Last week he underwent 4 leukapheresis, a blood transfusion and was on oxygen and iv’s. We nearly lost him on Wednesday but he pulled through and has slowly improved. He is now on the oncology floor at the hospital.

As a single parent with custody of his 3 children and no insurance, we have a lot of battles to overcome. We are aware this will be a long and expensive journey. Your prayers are welcome as we navigate this latest difficulty.”

***September 24th -UPDATE

”My son remains in the hospital at Mercy on the oncology floor. We keep hoping he will be discharged but they are having trouble balancing the chemo, keeping the red blood cells and platelet levels up and keeping infections at bay. They have temporarily taken him off the chemo to see if it will bring his red blood cells and platelets up since he will not be able to receive blood once he is discharged to home. They will then resume the chemo but at a lesser dosage.”
