Two weeks ago an unexpected situation began to unfold in California that affects our family and we need your help.
Rebekah Leon, our family member Roxanne Grace Sowerby's twin sister, fled to California with her two children Nathaniel(10) and Jewell(2). Rebekah is not well and was receiving treatment for schizophrenia and other psychosis in Arizona. About a week after Rebekah fled to California, she visited a hospital in Orange County with her two children. The hospital was extremely concerned about her mental health. They assessed her, detained her, and sent her to another local assessment facility. Since then, Rebekah has been released, as she has refused treatment. The state of California has the children in a transitional facility at this time. They will be placing the children into the foster care system if a family member doesn’t step forward...
Why we need your Prayers and Financial Support.
The courts of California have mandated the following: Rebekah must remain in California focusing on her recuperation, for up to two years, and is required visitation with her children 10 hours a week; the children’s caregiver must be a foster parent or family member vetted by the state and also a Californian resident. Roxanne Grace, has taken steps to become a California resident, so that she might become the children’s temporary caregiver during the duration of Rebekah’s recovery. This is a stressful situation for her and her immediate family. She is a single mother of 4 children in Arizona. Should Rebekah not recover the children must go to the present caregiver. At this time, Roxanne is doing all that is in her power to become the children’s immediate caregiver, in case her sister’s recovery does not go well. Her and her mother are brave and need our support. We need your prayers and your financial help in any way possible!
We are asking our communities for help as this is an expensive endeavour that Roxanne has been forced to take on. These children have been through so much and are in need of stability, love and family support. We love these children and want them to remain in our family.
We need to raise $5,000 ASAP to secure, rent for the months of June and July, as well as immediate expenses for travel. Going forward, Roxanne will need approximately $4,000 a month to care for the children, their essential needs, and to cover the costs for her and her mother, Connie, as they travel between Phoenix and LA regularly in rotation.
