Who we are:
Founded in 1984, the Northern Association of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (NATESOL) has been serving the development and support needs of language teachers in the North-West of England for over thirty years.
Based in Manchester, our voluntary organisation holds six teacher development sessions a year, including a full day’s conference in early/mid May. We have a wide and varied membership which includes teachers in the adult, FE and HE sectors, and in state and private schools. Members can be either individual or institutional, but non-members are always welcome at our events (please see links to the right for membership and event information).
Over the years we have welcomed a wide range of speakers at our sessions, which are often supported by the major ELT publishers. Speakers may be from local institutions or from further afield, including, in recent years, Michael Swan, Scott Thornbury, Adrian Underhill, Jim Scrivener, and Jeremy Harmer.
The committee is made up of local volunteers, but we are always happy to incorporate new members and new ideas. We are an Associate of IATEFL, giving us access to an international network of like-minded teachers in many different contexts. We aim to bring together as many teachers as possible, so encourage you to attend one of our events and make contact with the wider community of ELT professionals in the region and beyond.
Why we are raising money:
As you may know, we have moved to providing online sessions due to the Coronavirus outbreak. We do this to continue supporting teachers and other individuals by providing them with ideas and inspiration during the pandemic. So far, we have had webinars on the use of technology for online teaching, teacher well-being, and online storytelling. Our online talks and workshops are all FREE of charge and open for the public. Hence, we are raising money to allow us to maintain sufficient funds to cover our main expense which is our speaker's fee. We would appreciate any contribution to support us during these unprecedented times. Thank you!
