Natasha's Battle with Bone Cancer

Natasha's life is yet another one affected by cancer at the young age of 23. In May, an MRI scan immediately landed her in the ER of Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital. Two weeks later, she was a diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer. The high-grade, 30-centimetre tumour was found inside of her left femur.  In July, Natasha has now completed seven weeks of chemotherapy only to be told her body was resistant and the chemotherapy ineffective. The tumour continued to grow inside her leg and surgery was needed immediately. A total femural replacement was planned for Natasha as the nature of the sarcoma was contained inside the bone for an easy removal. A few days into her hospital admission, Natasha suffered a fracture in the femur which saw the cancer bleed into the surrounding tissue. This meant the cancer was no longer contained and a different surgery was needed to fix the aggressive growth of the tumour. The surgeon made the tough decision to amputate and Natasha had to say goodbye to the leg that’s carried her well over the last 23 years! Natasha has put on hold her employment and university studies during this time and has given up her car in order to support herself financially throughout her treatment. We have opened this page to raise funds and help Natasha cover some of her financial costs due to loss of income and help her throughout her rehabilitation. We also hope to raise enough money to help get her back on her feet with a prosthesis in order to help her resume her daily activities as normal. Natasha is a highly ambitious girl who believes in taking part in as many life experiences and opportunities as possible. Her passions are travelling and her studies in Graphic Design. Her studies had landed her to an internship in her second year and she has volunteered for many design projects offered by Curtin University's Curtin Volunteers. She has also had the opportunity to participate inter-state at THE Young Universities Summit, representing Curtin University at their Brisbane conference.
